650,000 people travel to Wexford Town for Biggest-Ever Fleadh

650,000 people attend Biggest-Ever Fleadh | RTÉ at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2024

Wexford Town hosted the Comhaltas Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2024 last week. And according to Garda estimates, up to 650,000 people visited Wexford town over the course of the eight day festival, smashing the previous record of 600,000 held by Mullingar. Up to 120,000 people were on the streets of Wexford over the course of Saturday. RTÉ was there, on the Gig Rig, at the bandstand with RTÉ RnaG on St Peter's Square, and with a large-scale RTÉ Radio 1 activation at Wexford Arts Centre, and in the Opera House with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

RTÉ and TG4 are proud to support Comhaltas Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann as official media partners and, in addition to a large-scale national campaign, RTÉ programmes and presenters were on the ground in Wexford town.

  • RTÉ Radio 1’s The Louise Duffy Show broadcast live from outside Wexford Arts Centre across two days
  • Bhí Ríl an Ródaí BEO, le Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha, ar RTÉ RnaG ó St Peter’s Square
  • The John Creedon Show had a special show from 7pm-9pm outside Wexford Arts Centre, including a live Olympic screening to a crowd of hundreds
  • Kieran Hanrahan presented Céilí House live from The Gig Rig
  • The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, under conductor David Brophy, joined legendary folk musicians John Mc Intyre, Julie Fowlis, Éamon Doorley and RTÉ CO Associate Artist Zoë Conway, for Éire is Alba.
  • And RTÉ presented live trad each afternoon on its main stage activation in the town
