Last Friday night (1 November) saw the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Premier Division title race go down the wire as league leaders Shelbourne and reigning champions Shamrock Rovers battled it out live across RTÉ2, RTÉ News channel and RTÉ Player.
An average of 206,000 viewers were tuned into RTÉ2 peaking at a massive 402,000 as Shelbourne sealed their first League title win since 2006 with a late, late victory against Derry City in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
19% of those watching TV at the time were tuned-in to RTÉ2 not including those watching Shamrock Rovers v Waterford simultaneously on RTÉ News.
Meanwhile in a sold out Tallaght Stadium and live on the RTÉ News channel and RTÉ Player, Rovers held up their end of the bartgain with victory over Waterford but it was to prove too little too late as Shels were crowned champions.
The curtain comes down on the domestic season on Sunday as Drogheda United face Derry City in the Sports Direct FAI Cup Final from the Aviva Stadium, live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player (2.00pm).
