11 Million streams across RTÉ Player so far this June

RTÉ Player has this month seen some of the highest viewing figures on the platform since the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

The UEFA European Championship 2024 began on Friday June 14th, and on RTÉ Player there have been over 3 million streams across 32 games - an average of over 100,000 streams per game. This is 3.5 times higher than the equivalent average (31,000) at the last European Championships in 2021.

Last week was the biggest week on RTÉ Player since December 2022, with 4.2 million streams. There have been over 11 million streams on the platform in June to date.

Aoife Byrne, Head of RTÉ Player said: "RTÉ Player has seen incredible live streaming numbers over the past few weeks as RTÉ’s Summer of Sport heats up. Audiences have been glued to their phones, tablets and TVs, streaming all the action from GAA, URC, the Irish medal winners at the European Athletics and the first week of the UEFA Euros. 

As part of RTÉ’s commitment to continuously improve the service, access and user experience of RTÉ Player, audiences can now enjoy all the live action on RTÉ Player’s new TV app which has live streaming enabled and has already been rolled out on LG, Samsung, SKY and many more, with the rest to come later this year. 64% of all Euro streams have been on smartphones. Since the tournament launched, there have been 3 million streams and the action from Germany has reached over half a million unique devicesDenmark v England has been the most-watched match to-date with over 200,000 streams."

Audiences are also loving RTÉ Player's growing catalogue of video on demand, with soaps, drama boxsets including Yellowstone and Irish dramas such as KIN, Love Hate and The DryRoom to Improve, First Dates and The Tommy Tiernan Show are among the most-streamed TV shows.

Aoife Byrne continued: "Coming off the back of our biggest ever year in 2023, it looks like RTÉ Player is set for another record in 2024."

RTÉ Player has viewers covered for box sets throughout the summer, with classic comedy series from The Royle Family to I’m Alan Partridge now streaming. Go all in with Charleen and Ellie in their RTÉ Player Original, Charleen and Ellie Go All In, or kick off a summer of streaming with all seasons of classics Gavin and Stacey and The Office available now, plus new series of Harry Wild and Crossfire. Viewers can also stream all episodes of The Thick of It and W1A from Monday 1 July.
