The best piece of advice I was ever given…

‘Cease to worry about things beyond the power of your will’. I have to remind myself of this from time to time – that no matter how hard you try to you can’t change some things (or some people) and there is no point stressing about things you cannot control.

What was your first job?

My first ever ‘proper’ full time job was working as a cadet journalist at a daily newspaper. It was very old school . I had to learn short hand, go on stakeouts outside accused murderers’ homes and do doughnut and coffee drops at key police stations to get the scoop – no job too big or too small.

The one electronic device I couldn’t live without is…

My electric blanket. As an Aussie I’m always cold here in Dublin..all year round. I wish I could bring it to work.

Whats the last book you ever read?

Little fires by Celeste Ng. It’s the kind of book you need a debrief after.

The best part of my job is…

Working across all the platforms at RTÉ. I’m relatively new to RTÉ and my background is in newspapers and digital so its exciting to learn more about tv and radio and get a better insight into how audience interact with the different mediums.

What’s your favourite app?

Audible – I rarely read a a physical book these days. I can get through 3-4 audio books a month.

The most rewarding part of my job is…

Getting to see ideas come to life. Much of my job is about coming up with unique ideas or creative execution concepts for brands that are interested in working with RTÉ. Unlike working in a creative industry, RTÉ has the production talent and the platforms to executive ‘in-house’ and that means being able to the project from ideation to execution.

My go to work wardrobe is…

Varied. I cycle in most days so I dress accordingly. I know what makes me sound very practical but in actuality I cycle in almost anything from heels to a pencil skirt. It probably isn’t the safest, so if you ever spot on on the road, steer well clear!

Digital Detox – yay or nay?

Yay. I am far more relaxed when I spend time away from my phone but then again I’d be lost without it…literally. Google Maps is my daily savior.

How do you define success?

I see success as a holistic thing, not just career success but also success in your personal life. It’s about finding the right balance between work life and home life.

What’s the most overused word in your industry?

‘Disruptive’

How often do you turn your phone off completely?

Never. I can’t remember the last time it was completely off.
