10 minutes with… Karen Foster

Karen Foster is the Sales Manager for the RTÉ Guide, Ireland's largest selling magazine.

 

The best part of my job is…

Oh it has to be working on the iconic bumper Christmas issue, it is a wonderful issue to be involved in with a great team of people

 

What was your first job?

My first job was with a company called Plastronics and my role was on the quality control team. I was only there around 8 months then I started to work in RTE.

The best piece of advice I was ever given… 

Life is not a race, slow down!  I laugh as I hear that a lot, I just walk very fast…

The most rewarding part of my job is…

At the moment it is hearing how well the Guide is selling week in and week out.  Our readers are so loyal and really engaged with the magazine.

Have you ever met anyone famous? 

No, not met as such but bumped into a few over my years in RTE.  Like Ed Sheeran and of course the RTÉ Stars!

What was the last book you read? 

Elena Ferrante, My Brilliant Friend, it’s a series of four books, I am on the 4th one.  Set in Naples back in the 1050’s. So good.

The one electronic device I couldn’t live without is…

At the moment my Kindle

Which two organizations outside your own do you know the most people at and why?  

Advertising Agencies, as I deal with many planners on a daily basis, and the HSE, most of my friends are Healthy Care Professionals.

How do you define success? 

As time goes on ,to me success is a balance with work and home life, without a doubt.

Digital detox - yay or nay?

Absolutely Yay

What's your favourite app? 

WhatsApp – it keeps us all connected.  However I am selective about what groups I am in as it could take over your life.

Tell us something interesting that people may not know about you?

I am a competitive Irish Dancer.  Well before Covid hit, it is all paused for now.

What or who are you a ‘closet’ fan of?  

Abba, Whitney need I say more!!
