The best part of my job is…

Calling competition winners to tell them they’ve just won a huge cash prize/money can’t buy experience is pretty cool! I spoke to a winner last week that had lost her job as a result of Covid-19. I was delighted to tell her she had won €10,000!

The people of course too, I’ve have great friends and colleagues here, which is huge to have in the workplace

What was your first job?

Sweeping floors and cleaning dirty ashtrays in Kiely’s of Mount Merrion. Ghetto!

My first office job was in AIB’s Brand Department during their sponsorship of Ryder Cup 2006. It was right up my street…

The best piece of advice I was ever given…

“Be caring and be there”. If you follow that ethos in work and in life you’ll let very few people down along the way.

The most rewarding part of my job is…

Watching content that I’ve created go out to an audience of 500,000+ viewers on a Friday evening on The Late Late Show and knowing that it has brought in revenue for RTÉ and left the relevant client happy too. Win-win.

Digital detox - yay or nay?

Yay! I don’t think I’m obsessed with my phone, but it’s never off either, so I could probably manage that better. I could certainly do with a Zoom detox following the past three months of living on a computer screen!

What was the last book you read?

Tony 10: The Astonishing Story of the Postman who Gambled €10,000,000 ... and Lost it All. A gripping, easy read. Hard to believe it’s true at times, with the key message being that no matter how hopeless a situation may seem, there’s always a way out or a lifeline.

The one electronic device I couldn’t live without is…

In an ordinary world I would have just said my phone but without my laptop during the pandemic I’d have been lost.

Which two organizations outside your own do you know the most people at and why?

TV3/Virgin Media. Half of those I knew there at the time are here at RTÉ now. Then probably AIB, I had a few great years and memories in Bankcentre.

How do you define success?

For me it’s about doing your best and being confident in your work. If you’ve done your best, be proud of your efforts. It might be old school or cliché, but I like to think hard work doesn't go unnoticed.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

I accosted Beyoncé in Tie Rack at Dublin Airport back in June 2002. As I approached her to say hello, her seven-foot plus bodyguard intervened. “She’s shopping, man!” aka “**** off!” So, no I’ve never met anyone famous. Does the RTÉ canteen count?!

What's your favourite app?

I listen to podcasts every day, so Podcast Addict is great for that. I get Spotify for free on my mobile contract which is handy too.

What or who are you a ‘closet’ fan of?

Home & Away. I like it and all but I wouldn’t be going to a meet and greet with the River Boys in The Foundry in Carlow or anything!

Tell us something interesting that people may not know about you?

I’m very loosely related to meteorologist / weatherman Gerry Murphy. Our Grandmothers were first cousins or so my Dad has been telling me every single time he comes on air for as long as I can remember..!

What is your favourite brand and why?

I’ve always liked Adidas as a brand. Stylish and clean, their message consistently has creativity at its core. The ‘Impossible Is Nothing’ campaign of 2007 with Messi and Lomu stands out as exceptional, emotive work for me. I’ve always loved a good Guinness ad too!
